Mattangs are oceanic bar charts in which branches and coconut leafs indicate the sea routes and currents to the islands represented by shells. This early navigation system is transferred to the mountain environement. The seemingly abstract form depicts peaks and ridges and poetically creates orientation for the way through the mountains.
